Rona Ambrose, the Leader of the Official Opposition, issues a statement on Aga Khan`s Birthday

OTTAWA – DECEMBER 13, 2016
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Leader of the Official Opposition and Interim Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, Rona Ambrose, issued the following statement on the occasion of Aga Khan’s Birthday:

“I would like to extend best wishes to His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan, and to all Ismaili Canadians celebrating this special milestone. “As the spiritual leader of millions of Shia Ismailis, the Aga Khan stands as an extraordinary proponent of the merits of peace and pluralism, yet his impact goes much further.

“The Aga Khan supports several non-profit foundations dedicated to helping those less fortunate. His Holiness has been involved with the revitalization of many important social, cultural and economic institutions across the globe that has led to the development of many humanitarian projects. It was because of these contributions, former Prime Minister Stephen Harper named His Holiness an Honorary Canadian Citizen.

“We are very proud of the strong relationship Canada has with the Aga Khan. In 2014, we were fortunate to have His Holiness in Canada to address parliament. In addition, the Aga Khan Museum was opened in 2014, which showcases Muslim civilizations in all their diversity. I encourage all Canadians to visit the beautiful Aga Khan Museum to learn more about the importance of tolerance and understanding.

“For over fifty years, the Aga Khan has worked tirelessly to bring together people from different cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds, becoming one of the world's foremost advocates for compassion and peace.

“On behalf of the Conservative caucus and the Conservative Party of Canada, and join the Ismaili community in wishing His Holiness happy birthday, and thank His Highness for his contributions that continually benefit the world."
