The Leader of the Official Opposition and Interim Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, Rona Ambrose, issued the following statement to mark Eid al-Adha:
“On behalf of our Conservative caucus, I would like to extend my best wishes for a peaceful and joyous Eid al-Adha to all Muslims in Canada and around the world. It is during Eid al-Adha that our Muslim friends and neighbors take part in one of the world’s largest and most diverse gatherings that highlights the shared roots of the world’s Abrahamic faiths.
“For many Muslims, Eid-al-Adha is a time for compassion, forgiveness, and helping the less fortunate. Celebrations include making charitable donations, sharing festive meals, exchanging gifts, and prayer.
“I am reminded and grateful by the incredible contributions of many Canadian Muslims who provided a helping hand during the Fort McMurray wildfire, including the Syrian Refugee Support Group of Calgary and the International Development and Relief Foundation.
“On behalf of the Conservative Party of Canada, I encourage all Canadians learn more about the contributions of Canada’s diverse Muslim community in shaping our country.
