Rona Ambrose, the Leader of the Official Opposition, issues statement to mark Purim

Ottawa – March 11, 2017

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Rona Ambrose, Interim Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and Leader of the Official Opposition, issued the following statement to mark Purim:

“Today, Jewish Canadians and Jews from across the world celebrate with a spirit of revelry marking the most joyous day of the year on the Jewish calendar, Purim.

“This celebration commemorates the salvation and deliverance of the Jewish people from Haman, and their historic victory as told in the Biblical Book of Esther

“The story of Purim is a very joyous holiday that is deeply rooted in history and tradition. This celebration reminds us of the strength and determination of the Jewish people throughout many tribulations.

“The Jewish community has always furthered our common values of tolerance, inclusiveness, and religious freedom. This is why the Conservative Party of Canada continues to stand with the Israel and the Jewish community to combat the rise of prejudice and anti-Semitism.

“For all Canadians, Purim provides a meaningful opportunity to recognize the many important contributions of the Jewish community to Canada and our diverse heritage.

“On behalf of the Official Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada, I would like to extend my best wishes to everyone celebrating Purim.

“Chag Purim Sameach!”
