Statement by the Leader of the Official Opposition on MP Tony Clement announcing intention to seek Conservative Party Leadership

OTTAWA - Rona Ambrose, Leader of the Official Opposition and interim Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, issued the following statement today on the Honourable Tony Clement’s announced intention to seek the Conservative Party of Canada leadership:

“I join Conservatives across Canada in welcoming Tony Clement to our Party’s leadership race. Tony is a hard-working Member of Parliament with extensive experience in opposition, as well as at both federal and provincial cabinet tables. He is a strong addition to this contest."

“Effective immediately, Members of Parliament Peter Kent and Alain Rayes will assume the responsibilities of Official Opposition Foreign Affairs Critic and Deputy Foreign Affairs Critic, respectively.”
