Rona Ambrose, the Leader of the Official Opposition, issues statement to mark Holi
Ottawa – March 13, 2017
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
“Today we celebrate Holi, the Hindu festival which marks the arrival of spring. Holi, which is also known as the ‘Festival of Colours’, is a celebration of love, colour, fertility, and the triumph of good versus evil.
“As families and friends gather to celebrate Holi, they also use this time to repair and strengthen relationships while looking forward to new beginnings in the year ahead.
“Holi has also grown to be popular among non-Hindus in Canada and abroad. Festival-goers will attend traditional Holika bonfires and participate in playful water fights – where participants will toss water and coloured powder amongst the crowd.
“By bringing together Canadians of all walks of life and different backgrounds, Holi reminds us of the importance of peace and unity.
“For all Canadians, Holi is a great opportunity to reflect on the many remarkable contributions that Hindus and South Asians have made to our country’s rich heritage.
“On behalf of the Official Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada, I would like to extend my best wishes to everyone celebrating Holi, the Festival of Colours.
