FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ottawa, ON – The Honourable Andrew Scheer, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and the Official Opposition, issued the following statement regarding Justice Minister David Lametti’s supposed concerns over the Supreme Court Justice leaks:

“Instead of just tweeting his concerns about the Prime Minister’s Supreme Court Justice leaks, Justice Minister David Lametti should pick up the phone and ask his boss Justin Trudeau why the information was leaked in the first place.

“As Canada’s top legal officer, David Lametti owes more to Canadians than his words. He needs to take action and immediately launch an investigation into who is responsible for the leaks.

“Trudeau’s Liberals are doing serious damage to the integrity of Canada’s rule of law and the independence of our judiciary and legal system. Both have been subjected to unprecedented political interference from a Prime Minister who has no regard for these fundamental democratic institutions.

“I call on Mr. Lametti to rise above the tweets, leaks, and smear tactics of this government and get to the bottom of this gross assault on the independence of our judiciary.”
