Andrew Scheer, Leader of Canada`s Conservatives, issues statement to Armenian Independence Day
OTTAWA – September 21, 2017
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Leader of The Conservative Party of Canada, Andrew Scheer, issued the following statement to mark the celebration of Armenian Independence Day
“On this day, twenty six years ago, the People of Armenia voted in favour of establishing an independent sovereign Armenia, ending the decades of Soviet communist rule.
“Canada and Armenia share strong bilateral ties. Our relationship is strengthened through the outstanding contributions of many Armenian-Canadian community and faith groups.
“Canada’s Conservatives have always stood steadfast in our support for Armenia and its people. In 2006, the previous Conservative government recognized the Armenian Genocide. Furthermore, in remembrance of the many hardships the Armenian people and other oppressed peoples faced at the hands of communism, the Conservative government led the charge to establish the Memorial to the Victims of Communism.
“On this occasion I encourage all Canadians to learn more about our Armenian friends and neighbours and all of their great achievements, both domestically and abroad.
“On behalf of Canada’s Conservative and the Official Opposition, I would like to extend my best wishes to all those celebrating the 26th Armenian Independence Day.
“Happy Independence Day!”
