Andrew Scheer, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, issues statement on to mark Eid al-Ahda
August 31, 2017 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
OTTAWA, ON - Andrew Scheer, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and Leader of the Official Opposition, issued the following statement on Eid al-Ahda:
“Today, Muslims in Canada and across the world will gather to celebrate Eid al-Ahda, also known as the ‘Celebration of Sacrifice’.
“Eid al-Adha is the second most important celebration in the Muslim Calendar, which marks the end of the Hajj, also known as the great pilgrimage to Makkah (Mecca). Each year an estimated two million Muslim pilgrims flock to Mecca to complete one of the five pillars of Islam.
“For many Muslims, this is a time of kindness, compassion, and helping the less fortunate. Families and friends will gather for prayer, exchange gifts, and donate to charities to help those most in need.
“For all Canadians, today marks an excellent opportunity to recognize the many contributions that Muslims have made to our free, prosperous and pluralistic society.
“On behalf of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, I want to take this opportunity to extend my best wishes to all Canadian Muslims for a joyous and peaceful Eid al-Adha.
