FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
OTTAWA, ON – Andrew Scheer, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada issued the following statement on Nowruz: “On behalf of Canada’s Conservatives, I would like to extend my best wishes to all of those celebrating Nowruz!
“Nowruz, meaning ‘New Day’, marks the beginning of the New Year in the Persian calendar and signifies renewal, rejuvenation and a new hope for the future. In addition to the Persians, it is also celebrated by a number of communities, including the Kurdish and Ismailis.
“This centuries-old celebration is an opportunity to gather with family and friends to send best wishes and hope to others for the year ahead. Many will also participate in traditions like setting the Haft-Seen, which is a traditional table setting of seven different items that symbolize the blessings of life.
“Although today is joyous occasion, it is important to remember individuals abroad who are continuously denied basic human rights. Canada’s Conservatives will always be a strong voice for freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law at home and abroad.
“For all Canadians, today is a great opportunity to reflect on the many vital and vibrant contributions that Canadians of Persian and Central Asian heritage have made our country’s rich heritage.
“Nowrouz Piroz Be!”
