Ottawa, ON – The Leader of Canada’s Conservatives, the Honourable Andrew Scheer, issued the following statement to mark International Day of La Francophonie:

"I am proud to join all Canadians, Francophiles and Francophones around the world in celebrating the International Day of La Francophonie.

"The French language and patrimony are one of Canada’s greatest assets. Québécois and all French Canadians in communities all across the country actively contribute to our economic and cultural life from coast to coast. They actively contribute to our economic and cultural life from coast to coast. Moreover, dynamic Francophone communities enrich Canadian culture and are a testament to the importance of the French language and its contributions to our country.

"I am very proud to speak French, and I work hard every day to become even more fluent. I’m also proud that Canada is an important representative of Francophone culture in international forums like the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie, in the creation of which we played an active role.

"On March 20, I’m happy to join all Canadian Francophones who are celebrating the rich legacy of their families and communities that they proudly promote around the world."
