Justin Trudeau has failed to protect the health and safety of Canadians: Conservatives

Conservative Party of Canada | October 17, 2018

Ottawa, ON – Marilyn Gladu, Shadow Minister for Health, and Pierre Paul-Hus, Shadow Minister for Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, issued a statement following the legalization of marijuana in Canada:

“In a rush to meet his self-imposed political deadline, Justin Trudeau has failed to adequately address the many concerns of municipalities, law enforcement, employers, scientists and doctors about his cannabis legalization legislation.

“For example, just last week the Trudeau government confirmed that there is no conclusive way to determine if someone is driving high. This has left our law enforcement officials in limbo, with several police forces across the country refusing to use government-approved testers.

“The safety concerns of employers, workers and Indigenous communities have not been addressed. And to add insult to injury, Justin Trudeau has failed to explain how his plan will keep marijuana out of the hands of children, and profits out of the hands of criminals. The lack of public education has left many Canadians unsure of the new rules and about how this will impact border crossing into the United States.

“Trudeau’s lack of leadership on his signature file has resulted in uneven rules for every province, territory, and municipality, creating uncertainty and confusion from coast to coast.

“Andrew Scheer’s Conservatives will always protect the health and safety of Canadians. We will continue to hold Justin Trudeau accountable when he fails to do the same.”
