Ottawa, ON – The Honourable Tony Clement, Conservative Shadow Minister for Justice, and Michael Cooper, Deputy Shadow Minister for Justice, released a statement following the Trudeau government’s decision to water-down penalties for impaired driving:
“Impaired driving is the leading criminal cause of death and injury in Canada. Justin Trudeau has failed to listen to victims of these senseless tragedies and has recklessly doubled-down on watering-down penalties for this very serious offence.
“Canada’s Conservatives understand that victims must always be at the centre of our justice system. This decision by Justin Trudeau is wrong. Impaired driving causing bodily hard is a serious offence that must be met with a serious punishment.
“Andrew Scheer’s Conservatives will always put the rights of victims ahead of criminals and will hold the Prime Minister to account when he fails to do the same.”
