Liberals Again Delay Passage of the Transportation Modernization Act

Conservative Party of Canada | May 14, 2018

Martensville, Saskatchewan – Kelly Block, Conservative Shadow Minister for Transport, issued the following statement today regarding Bill C-49, the Transportation Modernization Act:

“This past Friday, in the House of Commons, Opposition Members of Parliament asked Justin Trudeau’s Liberals to accept two common sense amendments which would have allowed the bill to immediately be passed.

“The Parliamentary grandstanding by the Liberals has further delayed the passage of this important legislation for another 11 days, hurting once again our agricultural, manufacturing and natural resources industries that have already been waiting far too long for relief from Justin Trudeau.

“Andrew Scheer’s Conservatives know that an efficient and well-functioning rail transportation system is critically important to the Canadian economy. Many industries rely on rail transportation to get their products to market. This is why we have always supported the passage of Bill C-49 as expeditiously as possible.

“We will continue to fight for Canadian shippers and farmers to have access to a logistics system that gets their products to market in a predictable and timely way.
