FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Andrew Scheer, the Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and the Official Opposition, released the following statement looking back on 2018 - Justin Trudeau’s Year of Failure:
“This session of Parliament is almost over and so too is 2018. For Justin Trudeau, this year can’t end soon enough.
“It has been a Year of Failure for the Prime Minister - a series of major mistakes, poor judgments, and broken promises on critical issues that have had real consequences for Canadians.
“He failed to balance the budget, build a pipeline, and secure the border. He failed victims of crime, Canadian veterans, and our armed forces. His carbon tax fails to reduce emissions and makes everyday essentials more expensive. His international trips have failed to improve Canada’s foreign relations. And he failed to get a better deal on NAFTA, backing down to Donald Trump on almost every major point of the deal.
“All of these failures have happened in the last year alone. Imagine what he will do if he gets another four more years.
“In 2019, Canadians will get an opportunity to make sure that doesn’t happen.
“Conservatives enter the election year strong and energized. Our recent by-election results both in Quebec and Ontario show that Canadians are putting their faith in us.
“Over the next weeks and months, we will articulate a clear vision supported with firm commitments on how a new Conservative government under my leadership will lead the country.
“Conservatives will offer economic policies that promote investments, and helps people get ahead, not just get by. An immigration system that is orderly, fair and represents Canada’s traditions of compassion and generosity, a plan for the environment that won’t punish commuters while letting polluters off the hook and a foreign policy that brings Canada back to its rightful place in the world.
“We will continue to hold Justin Trudeau to account for his failures - but we will also show Canadians that a better government and a Canada they can be proud of again is only one vote away.”
