FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ottawa, ON – The Honourable Andrew Scheer, Leader of the Official Opposition, today released the following statement regarding the by-election in Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes:

“On behalf of the entire Conservative caucus, I would like to congratulate Michael Barrett on his victory in Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes. Residents can count on Michael to defend the region’s interests and to be a strong advocate in Ottawa.

“As we get closer to next year’s federal election, more and more Canadians are growing tired of Justin Trudeau’s many failures, from massive deficits to higher taxes to ethics investigations to embarrassments on the world stage.

“They see in Conservatives like Michael Barrett a team of leaders who understand their concerns and who will fight for their interests every day.

“This is the 11th by-election since 2015 in which Conservatives have increased our share of the vote while the Liberals’ share of the vote has decreased. It’s clear that Conservatives have momentum on our side heading into 2019.

“This is an incredibly exciting time to be a Conservative and I look forward to working with Michael to spread our positive vision for Canada.”
