FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ottawa, ON – Sylvie Boucher, Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and Economic Development (Quebec), today issued the following statement regarding the Liberal government’s Strategy on Innovation and Growth for the Quebec Regions:
“True to form, Justin Trudeau’s government has demonstrated that it is completely disconnected from rural areas. Today’s announcement is just one more example: a year before the election Justin Trudeau is trying to make up for his failure to tackle issues that matter to people living in rural areas.
“How can they understand the intricacies of local issues in Charlevoix, the Gaspé Peninsula or Abitibi when the Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED-Q) is from Toronto? Clearly the 40 Liberal MPs from Quebec have no clout with Justin Trudeau and province’s rural areas are missing out.
“Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer has committed that a Conservative government will appoint a minister from Quebec to run CED-Q. Our party is the only one that understands regional realities and is prepared to defend them.”
